  Photo Competition on Global Development  
#GlobalDevBlog

A new, development-oriented blog, GlobalDev, is soon to be launched by the Global Development Network in collaboration with top global development partners. The blog will provide an exciting new platform for policy-relevant and research-based knowledge, to catalyze and encourage access and use of innovative, high-quality academic research on key development issues.

GlobalDev is inviting entries for a photo competition to showcase various themes related to global and sustainable development, in the lead up to the launch of the blog. Entrants will have the opportunity to gain international recognition and exposure for their work on GlobalDev, supporter websites and other online and print communications.

Five thematic categories are open for photographic submissions:

  • Migration, immigration and refugee issues 

  • Education, science and research

  • Social progress, equality, justice and development, gender

  • Environmental issues: sustainable development, climate change, energy use, production and conservation, sustainable and unsustainable transportation, biodiversity and cities

  • Global development, infrastructure and trade

Prizes

Selected photos will feature on the GlobalDev blog site and in other communications, crediting the photographer. Five winning photos will be displayed at an exhibit held during the launch event of GlobaDev in New Delhi and Washington DC this year. Winners will be given the printed version of their photo from the exhibition.

Social Media Award

A special prize for the most popular photo on social media will also be awarded as part of the competition. Entrants are invited to upload and share their photo on Facebook, using the hashtag #GlobalDevBlog. GlobalDevBlog will share photos on its Facebook page and other social media platforms. The photo with the most likes on photos shared by GlobalDevBlog will also be exhibited at the GlobalDev launch event later in the year. Please note it is necessary to LIKE the GlobalDevBlog Facebook page in order to be considered.

Rules, Terms and Conditions

1.     Entries must be submitted in jpeg format with the best resolution as possible. There are no limits on the number of entries that each entrant can submit. The photo can be taken using a mobile phone, camera or any other device. Please note that expenses incurred during submission are to be borne by the entrant. Photos must be taken by the entrant. Photos can be color-corrected or have filters applied, but should not be digitally manipulated in terms of content and context. Please do not include any watermark, frames, signatures or borders on your image.

2.     Photographers will retain all copyrights to their images. By submitting their entries, the Entrants accept that these entries may be used by GlobalDev blog and GDN as part of its communication.

3.     Entrants must possess the exclusive rights to entries and are responsible for having obtained any necessary permission from the subjects shown on the entries, in accordance with applicable law.

4.     The Editorial Team of GlobalDev will select the winning Entries on the basis of the following main criteria: originality, message clarity, composition, personification of the subject, and overall presentation

How to Enter

Entries will close on 31 May 2017, 23:59 Indian Standard Time (IST).

Photos must be submitted under the chosen category(s) to editors.globaldevblog@gdn.int with your complete name, a short artist biography including your residing country along with a short description of the photo in no more than 40 words (stating where and when the photo was taken).
