Global Research Competition (GRC) 2012 Winners

GDN is pleased to announce the winners of its pilot round of the Global Research Competition. This year the competition received over 200 applications, a majority of which demonstrated a strong passion for development research, excellent member qualifications and dedication to work within cross-country and multi-disciplinary teams. After a highly competitive selection process the following teams have been selected to receive the grant of up to US$32,000 each.

Theme 1: Education and Gender

The winners are:

  • NGUYET, Nguyen Thi (Vietnam), RZ, Rosmalinda (Indonesia), PHUNG THI, Van Anh (Vietnam) – 'The Impact of Education on Gender Wage Gap in Globalization in Developing Countries: The Case of Vietnam and Indonesia'
  • POUDEL, Rajendra (Nepal), SHAMS, Sana (Pakistan) – 'Investigating the Long Term Residual Impact of ICT Integration Across Gender for a Sustainable Project Design'
Theme 2: Food Security

The winners are:

  • AFZAL, Javeria (Pakistan), SABHARWAL, Nidhi (India) – 'Role of Social Protection in Food Security for Socially Excluded Groups in India and Pakistan'
Theme 3: Political, Economic and Social Transformations

The winners are:

  • ABDALLAH, Enas Zakareya (Egypt), GAZDAR, Kaouthar (Tunisia), GRASSA, Rihab (Tunisia), VERMONTE, Philip (Indonesia) – 'Political Islam, Revolution, Social Transformation and the Islamization of the Financial System: A Comparative Study Between Countries in North Africa, Indonesia and Pakistan'
  • BIDEGAIN, Germán (Uruguay), DOUGNON, Isaie (Mali) – 'Leading Cycles of Contention: Student Movements and Social Protest in Chile and Mali'
  • CABIRI, Ketrina (Albania), DOLI, Dren (Kosovo), KORENICA, Fisnik (Kosovo), MERJA, Albana (Albania) – 'To what extent has the Albanian and Kosovo party system institutionalised since democratisation?'

The concluding round of the Competition took place at GDN’s 13th Annual Global Development Conference in Budapest, Hungary (16-18 June, 2012), where GRC’s eminent Steering Committee selected the winners.

GRC 2013

GDN will soon be launching the 2013 round of its Global Research Competition. Several grants are to be awarded for the most significant and interesting cross-country research studies.
