Finalists Announced – Global Development Awards and Medals Competition (AMC) 2012

GDN is pleased to announce the finalists for the Japanese Award for Most Innovative Development Project (MIDP), Japanese Award for Outstanding Research on Development (ORD) and Medals for Research on Development (Medals).

This year the competition received over 700 submissions. After a multi-stage review process, the following researchers and organizations have been shortlisted to present their work at the GDN 14th Annual Global Development Conference, Manila, the Philippines on 19-21 June, 2013. The winners will be selected by an eminent panel of experts at the conference.

Category 1: Japanese Award for Most Innovative Development Project (MIDP)

The finalists that will present proposals on social development projects are:

  • Conservation Through Public Health, Uganda – 'Integrated Biodiversity Conservation, Health and Community Development around Bwindi Impenetrable National Park'
  • D.Net, Bangladesh – 'Promoting Infolady for Building Information and Inclusive Knowledge System'
  • Transparency International India, India – 'Development Pact'

Category 2: Japanese Award for Outstanding Research on Development (ORD)

The finalists that will present their research proposals in the themes of Inequality; Social Protection and Social Policies; and Inclusive Growth are:

  • KRISTLE NATHAN, Hippu Salk, India – 'Inclusiveness of Human Development in India'
  • PETRESKI, Marjan, Macedonia – 'EdPlaCo-MK: A Tool for Greater Gender Wage Equality in Macedonia, with Reference to Workers'
  • WONG, Sara, Ecuador – 'Labor Market Effects of Mandatory Benefit Regulations and Social Security Enrollment for Maids in Ecuador'

Category 3: Medals for Research on Development (Medals)

The finalists of the Medals for Research on Development presenting completed research papers in the theme of Inequality are:

  • MAIMATI, Yasheng, China – 'The Gender Education Gap in China: Menarche and the Power of Water'
  • NGUYEN, Quang, Vietnam – 'Measuring Norms of Income Transfer: Trust Experiments and Survey Data from Vietnam'

The finalists of the Medals for Research on Development presenting completed research papers in the theme of Social Protection and Social Policies are:

  • BENTANCOR, Andrea, Uruguay – 'The Part-time Premium Enigma: An Assessment of the Chilean Case'
  • RIBAS, Rafael, Brazil – 'Direct and Indirect Effects of Cash Transfer on Entrepreneurship'

The finalists of the Medals for Research on Development presenting completed research papers in the theme of Inclusive Growth are:

  • RANIERI, Rafael, Brazil – 'Inclusive Growth: Building Up a Concept'
  • ZUNIGA, Jimena, Argentina – 'A Cycle-Adjusted Fiscal Rule for Sustainable and More Equitable Growth in Argentina'
