Strengthening Institutional Capacities of Research Actors to Understand the Links between the Economy and the Environment | Hanoi, Vietnam | 26-27 October 2018
From a call released in April 2018, Global Development Network shortlisted two research actors for their work in understanding the links between the economy and the environment - Foreign Trade University, Vietnam and Fields of View, India. The two institutions will receive year-long grants of USD$ 40,000 to implement their research capacity building programs. The kickoff event in Hanoi, Vietnam - on 26-27 October 2018 - held a two-day workshop training for the institutions.
Foreign Trade University will set up a regional training program - with a mix of classroom and fieldwork - that will train participants on computable general equilibrium (CGE) models which will measure the impact of climate change on agricultural production along the Mekong Delta, including Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam.
Fields of View will develop and test an online research platform for policymakers working on slum development projects in India and South Asia that will provide them easy access to multidisciplinary research. The project will also encourage and engage policy actors and community members in using the platform.
The kickoff workshop in Hanoi brought together the teams from the two institutions, their expert advisors, and the GDN program support team. Through this two day workshop, GDN aimed to finalize the implementation plans, strengthen internal monitoring and evaluation frameworks and discuss plans of sustainability of projects and research-practice engagements.
