16th Annual Global Development Conference

WHAT

GDN's 16th Annual Development Conference focused on 'Agriculture for Sustainable Growth: Challenges and Opportunities for a new ‘Green Revolution' and feature some of the work supported by GDN and its Regional Network Partners, as well as research studies from all over the world. 

The conference was organized around a competitive call for sessions and papers. It showcased the research and development work conducted by young researchers from developing countries through presentations, discussions and posters exhibition. Four themes were discussed: food security and nutrition; environmental challenge and natural resources management; economic, social and political effects and impact of agricultural development; and new tools for the next green revolutions (financial and technological innovation). In addition, the conference hosted GDN's annual Global Development Awards and Medals Competition (Watch finalist Ravi Corea from Sri Lanka

WHY

Agricultural and food systems across the world are facing economic, social and environmental sustainability challenges. The new international climate agreement, and the post 2015 development agenda both point to the urgency of meeting these challenges, and outlining workable solutions, especially for developing countries seeking to outpace poverty and hunger.The conference provided researchers, policy makers and development practitioners the opportunity to talk about the latest research developments in the sector, learn from each other -- especially via South-South linkages -- and to discuss policy implications for agricultural and food security in the future.

WHERE

The Conference was held in Casablanca, Morocco. GDN's flagship event is is Annual Global Development Conference held in different countries across the globe, each year such as in Lima, Tokyo, Dakar or Manila.

The conference was held in partnership with the OCP Policy Center and the Economic Research Forum (ERF).

The conference was held on June 11-13, 2015.
