Marking the launch of an innovative program in Applied Development Finance which trains fellows from sub-Saharan Africa to evaluate the impacts of projects financed under the European Investment Bank's (EIB) Finance Impact Envelope, GDN and EIB held a week-long Impact Finance Workshop at EIB Headquarters in Luxembourg from 20-27 September. The ten fellows who have been selected under the new training and mentorship program for local African researchers, were inducted into the program, before beginning their training in impact evaluation.

Five expert advisors, who are internationally renowned experts in the field of impact evaluation, engaged closely with the fellows, providing guidance and technical training. Various EIB departments -- from economics, to operations, projects and evaluation -- also participated in the workshop, leading presentations and discussions.

The fellows will work for one year under the guidance of top international experts to evaluate projects financed under the Bank’s Impact Financing Envelope. This will build skills and capacity in impact assessment in the regions and refine the understanding of EIB’s impact.
