Research is Development

GDN, together with the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), works to address the need for stronger institutions working on policy-relevant research in the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) of the world through its program, Building Research Capacity in Least Developed Countries. Piloting an innovative demand-driven model for institutional capacity building between 2014 and 2017, GDN competitively selected and supported research institutions in Bhutan, Cambodia and Ethiopia based on their own blueprints for stronger research and outreach. The program provided financial, technical, outreach, grant management, and advisory support.

One of three partner institutions involved in the program, the Royal University of Bhutan's Institute for Gross National Happniess Studies, is actively building research leadership capacity in its eight colleges, developing research centers of excellence, and engaging academic staff and students to enhance their research skills.

Shot in Bhutan in June 2017, this film GDN's captures the testimonies of several project stakeholders: research leaders, teachers, students and the local project manager. The film comes at the end of the program, highlighting its achievements and the university's goals for the growth and expansion of its research centers.
