A new report titled ‘Impacts of Nachtigal Hydro Power Company’s Investments on Vocational Education and Training in Cameroon’ under the European Investment Bank (EIB) - GDN program was published in July 2022. It is based on a study conducted during the last cycle of the EIB-GDN program in Applied Development Finance that was launched in 2017. It was aimed at gathering additional insights into the results and impacts of some projects financed under the Impact Financing Envelope (IFE) for Africa Caribbean and the Pacific (ACP).
The programme lasted for three cycles of twelve-months, during which talented researchers from ACP countries spent a year on a “deep dive” study of an IFE project, trained, guided and mentored by GDN, the EIB and expert advisors (EAs). The programme used academic research techniques to study the development impact of ongoing private-sector investments, built capacity for evaluative research in developing countries, and helped to boost the EIB’s accountability and development effectiveness.
The research study in the new report investigates the impact of an intervention involving the renovation of school infrastructure and the provision of training equipment for vocational and technical schools in central Cameroon. The EIB-GDN program has used academic research techniques to study the development impact of ongoing private-sector investments, built capacity for evaluative research in developing countries, and helped to boost the EIB’s accountability and development effectiveness.
