Savoirs Sahel

Ideas for the future: Supporting think tanks to enrich public debate

Think tanks in the Sahel region from Senegal, Burkina Faso, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Chad are receiving funding support from the Agence Française du Développement, as part of Savoirs Sahel 2. The project's intervention axes are based on several assumptions:

1) Current knowledge about the Sahelian think tank landscape is still fragmented

(2) Sahelian think tanks are best able to define what support is likely to increase their impact on public debates

(3) Sahelian think tanks could benefit from being more clearly inserted into existing sub-regional, regional and international think tank networks - or from developing their own networks. The project will fund eight structures for 12 to 18 months of support based on their detailed proposals. It is aimed at both young think tanks and older think tanks in the Sahel. The calls will take place twice (with the capacity to fund four structures each time).

Four prominent think tanks based in the Sahel region in Africa have been selected as recipients of an 18-month institutional support grant in line with the Savoirs Sahel 2 program. This funding will empower them to successfully execute their proposed projects, coupled with a multifaceted approach to strengthen their institutional capacities. As part of this comprehensive program, the think tanks will also benefit from a dedicated mentoring program that will provide guidance and support throughout the duration of their projects. The nominated think tanks are:
