Migration CRA

C-MICRA is a Collaborative Research Action under the Belmont Forum supporting five international research consortia focused on human migration and mobility in the context of rapid global change. The programme brings together interdisciplinary research across local, national, regional, and global scales, spanning both the Global South and the Global North.

The call was launched in 2022, and the selected projects are currently ongoing.

Programme Coordination and Support

The US National Science Foundation has awarded a grant to Future Earth (US Global Hub), with sub-grants to the Global Development Network (GDN) and the Center for Systems Solutions (CRS), to support the five C-MICRA consortia. Future Earth convenes the consortia through the Sustainability Research and Innovation Summits. GDN and CRS provide specialised, on-demand support to help research findings reach audiences beyond academia.

From Research to STORIES

Most sustainability research aims to inform real-world decisions, yet research findings often remain confined to academic outputs. Funders increasingly expect evidence of societal impact, but dedicated support to help researchers reach policymakers, practitioners, and communities is still limited. C-MICRA addresses this gap by providing support that helps research inform discussions and decisions where it can make a difference.

Each consortium can receive tailored financial, creative and technical support to translate research findings into engaging formats that reach wider audiences and contribute to policy and practice. The approach centres on STORIES, which help connect research to people, policy, and decision-making.

What We Provide

  • Coordination and hands-on support based on extensive experience translating complex research into accessible stories

  • A dedicated online platform to host and share stories

  • Communications support from GDN to amplify stories through relevant networks

  • Access to the global networks of GDN, the Center for Systems Solutions, Future Earth, and the Belmont Forum

  • Flexible funding to support story-related activities identified by research teams

GlobalDev Call for Blogs: Climate Change, Human Migration and Mobility

In the context of the work GDN is carrying out through this CRA, GlobalDev, GDN's research communications platform, has launched a new series on Climate Migration. The series aims to curate diverse perspectives, amplify underrepresented voices, generate knowledge, and spark public and policy debate that can inform decisions, future research, and action on this urgent issue. Share your perspective by submitting a blog article!
