GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT AWARDS AND MEDALS COMPETITION (AMC) 2011

GDN is happy to announce the winners for the Japanese Award for the Most Innovative Development Project (MIDP), Japanese Award for Outstanding Research on Development (ORD) and Medals for Research on Development (MRD).

The winners are:

The winners of the Medals for Research on Development in the theme of 'The Interactive Economy and Urban Development' are:

• First Prize (US$10,000): ADEWOLE, Musiliu, Nigeria – ‘Schooling Externalities in Urban Nigeria: the Social Interactive Sources', Covenant University
• Second Prize (US$5,000): XU, Zheng, China – ‘Agglomeration Shadow: A Non-Linear Core’, University of Connecticut

The winners of the Medals for Research on Development in the theme of 'Urban Externalities (Contagious Disease, Congestion and Crime) and Urban Poverty' are:

• First Prize (US$10,000): CHENG, Zhiming, China – ‘Layoffs and Urban Poverty in the State-owned Enterprise Communities in Shaanxi Province, China’, The University of Wollongong, Australia
• Second Prize (US$5,000): BENAVIDES, Martin, Peru – ‘Family Well-being, Women Attitudes and the Intergenerational Transmission of Violence in Urban Areas in Peru’, GRADE

The winners of the Medals for Research on Development in the theme of ‘The Enabling Environment – Housing, Transportation and Infrastructure’ (listed alphabetically) are:

• Joint First Prize (US$7,500): DARMAWAN, Rivayani, Indonesia – ‘Elite Capture in Urban Society’, Development Economics Research Group, University of Göttingen
• Joint First Prize (US$7,500): GANDELMAN, Nestor, Uruguay – ‘Inter-generational Effects of Titling Programs: Physical vs. Human Capital’, Universidad ORT

The concluding round of the Competition took place at GDN’s 13th Annual Global Development Conference in Budapest, Hungary (16-18 June, 2012) where an eminent panel of judges selected the winners.
