Balasubramanyam Pattath

Balasubramanyam Pattath (Balu) is an Economist at GDN. He helped develop the Inclusive Digital Transformation Hub and currently serves as Research Lead for the DPI Inclusivity Measurement Programme. Previously, he was Programme Manager for the pilot assessing the socioeconomic impact of Digital Public Infrastructure. He also supported the development of GDN’s programmes on the Economics of DPI and Open Transaction Networks.

Balu holds a PhD in Economics from the Graduate Institute, Geneva. He previously worked as an instructor at Smith College, Geneva, and as a Research Fellow at the International Institute of Migration and Development in Thiruvananthapuram. His research focuses on migration, public finance and household behaviour in developing countries. His work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes, including Vaccine and the Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies. Balu has also worked with the World Bank, NORRAG and the Indian School of Business.
