Sanchari Mukhopadhyay

Sanchari is a social science researcher specialising in urban and regional development, local governance, municipal finance, and the political economy of social welfare. As a Fellow at GDN, she oversees the Doing Research Assessment and coordinates the Asia division.

Previously, she worked as Thematic Lead for Local Governance and Budget at the Centre for Budget and Governance Accountability (CBGA), India, where she worked on financial mechanisms for urban governance, budget accountability, care economy, Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) initiatives and poverty alleviation strategies. She has contributed to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Sixth Climate Report and has published articles on urban development and financial inclusion in leading platforms. Sanchari holds a PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, and is a former DAAD Fellow at the University of Cologne, Germany.
