GDN and the European Investment Bank (EIB) selected annual cohorts of fellows to study the impact of EIB projects in African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries. Here is a list of events, designed to provide training, learning and mentorship for local researchers :

24 and 26 March 2021 | A webinar series to discuss 'Asessing Impact Investments,' co-hosted by the EIB and GDN. See details

2-4 December 2020 | A final event for the EIB-GDN Impact studies program, was organized on  2-4 December 2020, online. Titled, 'Assessing the Development Impacts of Private Sector Impact Investments,' the conference was co-organized by GDN and the EIB, in partnership with the Campbell Collaboration. Sessions included discussions around defining and measuring impact of private sector impact investments, the design and implementation of such evaluations, their use and the stakeholders involved in the entire process. 23 October 2019 | GDN organized an open panel discussion at its 2019 Global Development Conference in Bonn, Germany, with the learnings from the EIB-GDN Program as the backdrop. The panel included representatives from EIB, GDN, the World Bank, the International Finance Corporation, Nielsen, as well as one of the researchers from the first cohort of the program. The session focused on the following key issues: How to evaluate the impact of impact investing, the unique challenges of applying academic research standards to assess real world investment, perspectives of fund managers and businesses, the ‘impact assessor’ and, operationalization. 

21-29 September 2019 | Inception workshop at EIB Headquarters, Luxembourg, for the third cohort of researchers, followed by Research Communications Training, Metz, La Citadelle Hotel. Both workshops helped to prepare researchers to take on assigned projects in ACP countries, later in the year.

22-29 October 2018 | Program induction at EIB Headquarters, Luxembourg, for the second cohort of researchers, followed by Research Communications Training, Metz, La Citadelle Hotel. The workshops combined methodological training and case analysis of projects with relaxed moments to share learning. 

20 - 27 September 2017 | The first team meeting was part of a one-week Impact Finance Workshop at EIB Headquarters in Luxembourg. See more. After this training workshop, the fellows worked for one year under the guidance of top international experts to evaluate projects financed under the Bank’s Impact Financing Envelope. This helped to build skills and capacity in impact assessment in the regions and refine the understanding of EIB’s impact.
