A JOINT WEBINAR by the GLOBAL DEVELOPMENT NETWORK and the INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE COUNCIL (ISC)
Research is central to all fields of science and human progress.
To the media, research brings objectivity and accuracy. Good stories are often the result of thorough research and investigation.
To researchers, the media is a strong channel for dissemination, one that is still largely unexplored and yet essential.
The joint webinar with expert speakers from both fields, seeks to explore the relationship between media persons and researchers, in particular:
- The principles guiding effective partnerships between media and academia
- The custodian and/or shared responsibility for the integrity of knowledge
- Conferring legitimacy - the role that research can play in validating or dismantling ‘fake news’
- How to avoid the temptation of ‘clickbait’
- External validation of questionable research coming from media exposure
- The visibility of credible research and researchers (and how to encourage it) vs the danger of ‘overexposure’ and becoming a public intellectual
And more.
